Truthful Tales for Tiny Hearts:
Empowering Kids with Life's Realities Through Poetry!

Ruby L Ross — that’s me!

I’m a mum in my forties living in Wiltshire, happiest with a sketchbook and a mug of hot chocolate. I love sketching and watercolours, reading, a little gaming, long walks, and autumn trees when the leaves turn red and gold. I adore Christmas and movies, and I collect toadstools. Favourite film? Terminator 2 (which may be why my sister now has a serious fear of robots. Sorry, sis.) I love music—I used to play the steel drums—and I’m a lifelong Queen fan. I have a very loving, supportive partner and two brilliant bonus boys (one teen, one six). Confessions: I’m afraid of rodents and octopus tentacles, and I don’t get the hype around pumpkin spice lattes or avocado.

I’m from Reading, Berkshire. I studied Health & Social Care at sixteen, then Performing Arts at twenty, and I sometimes spent my weekend with St John Ambulance. On one camp, fourteen-year-old me wriggled into my own huge sleeping bag, pulled it over my head like a cocoon and announced, “The Truth Worm is here.” My friends gathered round, torchlight and giggles, asking their biggest and silliest questions. I answered in a gentle, wobbly voice—truthfully, and kindly. Weaver began right there.

Weaver is named after my favourite actress - Sigourney, and is a worm very close to my heart!

I’m big on honesty, wrapped in kindness. Little white lies can nibble at trust, so with my daughter (and the boys) I try to answer plainly, listen carefully, and leave room for questions. If something’s tricky, we take it slowly—truth first, always gentle.
